چکیده

Continuous monitoring of brain perfusion at the bedside in neurointensive care is desirable. Currently used imaging modalities are not suited for frequent monitoring and often require the transport of the patient. Noninvasive near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in combination with an injection of a safe dye (indocyanine green, ICG) could serve as a quasicontinuous brain perfusion monitor. In this work, we evaluate prerequisites for the development of a brain perfusion monitor using continuous wave (cw) NIRS technique. We present results from a high-resolution diffuse optical tomography (HR-DOT) experiment in humans demonstrating the separation of signals from skin from the brain. This technique can help to monitor neurointensive care patients on a regular basis, detecting changes in cortical perfusion in time.

Contrast enhanced high-resolution diffuse optical tomography of the human brain using ICG

Non-invasive diffuse optical tomography (DOT) of the adult brain has recently been shown to improve the spatial resolution for functional brain imaging applications. Here we show that high-resolution (HR) DOT is also advantageous for clinical perfusion imaging using an optical contrast agent. We present the first HR-DOT results with a continuous wave near infrared spectroscopy setup using a den...

Tumor characterization in small animals using magnetic resonance-guided dynamic contrast enhanced diffuse optical tomography.

We present a magnetic resonance (MR)-guided near-infrared dynamic contrast enhanced diffuse optical tomography (DCE-DOT) system for characterization of tumors using an optical contrast agent (ICG) and a MR contrast agent [Gd-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA)] in a rat model. Both ICG and Gd-DTPA are injected and monitored simultaneously using a combined MRI-DOT system, resulting in accu...

Three-dimensional in vivo fluorescence diffuse optical tomography of breast cancer in humans.

We present three-dimensional (3D) in vivo images of human breast cancer based on fluorescence diffuse optical tomography (FDOT). To our knowledge, this work represents the first reported 3D fluorescence tomography of human breast cancer in vivo. In our protocol, the fluorophore Indocyanine Green (ICG) is injected intravenously. Fluorescence excitation and detection are accomplished in the soft-...

Concurrent MRI and diffuse optical tomography of breast after indocyanine green enhancement.

We present quantitative optical images of human breast in vivo. The images were obtained by using near-infrared diffuse optical tomography (DOT) after the administration of indocyanine green (ICG) for contrast enhancement. The optical examination was performed concurrently with a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam on patients scheduled for excisional biopsy or surgery so that accurate image ...

In vivo continuous-wave optical breast imaging enhanced with Indocyanine Green.

We investigate the uptake of a nontargeted contrast agent by breast tumors using a continuous wave diffuse optical tomography apparatus. The instrument operates in the near-infrared spectral window and employs 16 sources and 16 detectors to collect light in parallel on the surface of the tumor-bearing breast (coronal geometry). In our protocol an extrinsic contrast agent, Indocyanine Green (ICG...
